Preparatory work on A10 Zuid in Van Beinumstraat

For the same reason, we previously removed a tree in the south-western corner of Zuidplein. The air ducts for the World Trade Center Amsterdam (WTC) car park ventilation system were underneath this tree. The air outlets for the system are currently still integrated within the wind break next to the Wagamama restaurant. Both the ventilation system and the wind break are preventing construction of the northern motorway tunnel for Zuidasdok, which will also run just in front of Amsterdam Zuid station. We plan to make modifications to the ventilation system and remove the wind break. This requires the setting up of a construction pit. The works may cause noise disruption.

Using vibration to insert sheet piling

On 16 October, we will start to set up the work site, deliver materials and disable the ventilation system. In the week after that, starting on 23 October between 07:00 and 17:00, we will use vibration to insert more than 40 sheet piles into the ground in order to create a construction pit. If necessary, the work may be extended until 19:00. There may be disruption caused by noise and vibration. Demolishing the foundations of the wind break and removing the sheet piling again may also cause noise. We will use noise-control barriers in an attempt to reduce this as much as possible.

Information

The works start on 16 October and will continue until mid-December. We are working on weekdays from 07:00 – 17:00. In exceptional cases, the work may continue until 19:00 and there may be some work on Saturdays. The work that will cause the most construction noise will take place in the weeks indicated below:

  • 23 to 27 October – installing sheet piling
  • 30 October to 25 November – demolition of wind break foundations
  • 1, 4 and 5 December – removal of sheet piling

Zuidasdok tunnel
We are diverting the A10 Zuid underground in the centre of Zuidas. This will make it possible for Amsterdam Zuid station to develop into a public transport hub for railway, metro, bus and tram. Space will be created on the northern side of the station for a bus station and planting. On the southern side, there will be a tram station on the roof of the tunnel and space for a third railway platform. A tender procedure is currently under way for the tunnel project. Major construction works are expected to start in 2027.
