Parnassusweg now safer to cross at Gustav Mahlerlaan

After several complaints, we made adjustments to the crossing for cyclists and pedestrians in Parnassusweg at the end of April 2024. We removed the barriers on the footpath and a new traffic bollard now prevents vehicles from using the cycle path to turn around.

Where?

At the end of 2022, a new crossing was opened next to Gustav Mahlerlaan in Parnassusweg, intended for cyclists and pedestrians. This created a second route connecting Kenniskwartier with the central zone of Zuidas and with Amsterdam Zuid station, in addition to the crossing at De Boelelaan. The result was not what we had anticipated. Especially at busy times, pedestrians avoided the safety barriers installed by the GVB by crossing via the cycle path and car drivers also used the same cycle path to turn their vehicles around. We therefore made changes to the crossing in the last week of April 2024.

Safer to cross

We replaced the safety barriers with security bollards, which means that pedestrians can now cross safely without obstacles. We also put a traffic bollard in place to prevent drivers from turning on the cycle path. Finally, we added new signposting to guide all of the traffic in the right directions.
