Straight to VU Amsterdam via Gustav Mahlerlaan

It’s the busiest junction in Zuidas: every day, there are countless cyclists and pedestrians (mainly students heading for VU Amsterdam) waiting at the lights at the junction between De Boelelaan and Buitenveldertselaan. Thanks to the opening of the crossing over Parnassusweg, next to the NoMa House building and alongside the tram stop under the A10, they can now reach VU Amsterdam from Amsterdam Zuid station via Gustav Mahlerlaan.

Safety

Between the tram tracks, an island has been put in place so that cyclists and pedestrians only need to cross a single lane at a time. There are also warning sounds in the event of an approaching tram. Car drivers will need to wait for a while – a crossing for cars is expected to be part of the major restructuring works in Parnassusweg, but that will not be happening for several years.

Update, 20 December 2022: There will be no crossing for cars across Parnassusweg. Although this was considered during the draft phase of planning, it is not included in the most recent version of the plan for the major restructuring works in Parnassusweg.
