The works are part of the large-scale regeneration of Amsterdam Zuid station. From 22.00 on the evening of Wednesday, 28 May until 05.00 on the morning of Monday, 2 June, two lanes on the A10 ZuidA10 Zuid dicht will be closed. We will be positioning large cranes on the A10 Zuid next to the new Brittenpassage, de toekomstige extra reizigerspassage van het station. the future additional passenger tunnel at the station. Construction work is so well advanced that we can now lift stairways and a lift from the motorway to connect the passageway with the platform for tracks 3 and 4. Later this year, we will do exactly the same with the stairways and lift for the railway platform for tracks 1 and 2. We already built the new the new and permanent railway platforms for the new passenger tunnel earlier this year.
Please note: no trains running on Ascension weekend, A4 and A10 Zuid closed
Important: From 01.00 on 29 May until 05.00 on Monday, 2 June 2025, there will also be no
trains running to and from Amsterdam Zuid station. From 22.00 on Wednesday, 28 May until 05.00 on Monday, 2 June, there will be major works at the Nieuwe Meer junction. At the Badhoevedorp junction, the A4 will be closed in the direction of Amsterdam for traffic coming from the Schiphol direction. The connecting roads from the A4 and A10 Zuid in the direction of the West/Zaanstad will also be closed.
New overhead wire structure
At the same time, we are also building a new overhead wire structure. This is the system that powers the trains. It consists of steel portals fitted with cables and wiring. We will be able to use the cranes on the two closed lanes of the A10 Zuid to lift into position the steel that is needed to build the structure. We will start by building the new overhead wire portals. These will then provide temporarily support for the overhead wires, enabling us to demolish the old portals. The wires can then be fitted permanently. This is precision work that is very time-consuming. We also need to first assemble the cranes on the A10 Zuid that will be used to lift the steel into position. This work needs to be done close to the metro tracks. For this reason, part of the steel structure can only be built during the night when no metros are running.
Suitable platform roof
The existing overhead wire structure next to the Brittenpassage needs to be adapted because it is not suitable for the new roofs for the railway platforms. This platform roof will be put in place two weeks later, in the weekend of 14/15 June 2025. The motorway will be closed again that weekend and we will use cranes on the A10 Zuid to lift the roof sections into place. Also during that weekend, there will be no trains running to and from Amsterdam Zuid station.
Live spectacle: platform roof to be hoisted into position
Would you like to see the lifting of the platform roof with your very own eyes? If so, come along to this construction spectacle on 14 June. From a special location, you will be able to see how huge cranes lift the platform roof section by section into position from the A10. You will also be briefed on it as it happens. Register now.
The construction spectacle is part of our extensive programme during the FutureFest (ToekomstTiendaagse) Zuidas.
Regeneration of Amsterdam Zuid station and A10 Zuid
The building of a second passenger tunnel, the Brittenpassage, is part of the complete regeneration
of Amsterdam Zuid station. This is necessary because the existing station entrance, the Minervapassage, can hardly cope with the large numbers of railway and metro passengers. The regeneration of the A10 Zuid motorway includes the reconstruction of the De Nieuwe Meer and Amstel junctions and the tunnel in the central area of Zuidas.
