We worked non-stop for the whole weekend in order to construct retaining walls at six different places along the A10 Zuid. In this, we succeeded. But working with cranes and hydraulic pile drivers takes its toll. At the point where the A10 Zuid passes over the Piet Kranenbergpad, the ground sank, causing a crack to appear in the road surface. We have images of all the work, including the cracked road surface.

Repair work to subsidence

To repair the road, we are removing all the asphalt where the subsidence has occurred, to enable us to repair the foundations. We will then be applying new asphalt, layer by layer. We are carrying out the work at night, starting on Monday evening at 21.00 until 05.00 the following morning. It is expected that we will require three nights to do this work and that all three lanes will again be open on Thursday morning.

Traffic disruption

In the daytime
Because of the subsidence, one lane will be closed from the A4 Schiphol to the A10 Zuid in the direction of Hengelo/Utrecht until at least the morning of Thursday, 26 September. This means that two of the three lanes will be open. Road users should allow extra time, up to half an hour, for their journeys, especially during the morning and evening rush hours.

Evenings and nights
We will be carrying out the repair work for three nights, from 21.00 in the evening until 05.00 the following morning. This may also lead to traffic disruption. Traffic will still be able to pass the work being carried out at night, but to ensure there is sufficient room for the work, we are closing an extra lane at night. We are starting at 21.00, as we need time to apply all the layers of asphalt. This could lead to traffic disruption until the start of the night.

The road surface is expected to repaired by Thursday, 26 September

Widening of A10 Zuid

The work is necessary to allow the A10 Zuid to be widened. We are creating additional carriageways, each with two extra lanes, intended for local traffic. From the De Nieuwe Meer junction, extra viaducts are needed over Amstelveenseweg and Piet Kranenbergpad, and extra bridges over the River Schinkel. We are currently making preparations for the construction of these bridges and viaducts. At various locations along the A10 Zuid, we are inserting temporary sheet piling into the ground. We are doing this in order to be able to dig the embankment on which the A10 Zuid is built. The sheet piling will then ensure that the road remains stable in its current position. The digging work is necessary as there is no space alongside the embankment to build the extra carriageways. We will be building them where the embankment are currently situated.
