If one thing became clear during Zuidas FutureFest (ToekomstTiendaagse), then it is that the future is highly diverse. The future residents in Zuidas will be from all walks of life. There will be so much to experience and enjoy here, all against the backdrop of its impressive and distinctive architecture. It will also be arguably the best-accessible district in the country, having such a compact public transport hub at its heart and a tunnel for the widened A10 Zuid, as well as pleasant public spaces.

Zuidas-Zuidasdok Information Centre

Many of the guided tours started at the Zuidas-Zuidasdok Information Centre in the WTC. They included information about living in Zuidas, its architecture, and the future tunnel, which will guide the A10 Zuid below Zuidas’ very heart.

STRAAT museum, Ravel residential district

In the new Ravel residential district, you were able to cast your eye from a great height on the car-free neighbourhood in which 1,350 homes will be created. At the same time, street artists unleashed their creativity on a hoarding along Maurice Ravellaan, the new street designed to open up this residential district.

Safari

Elsewhere, at the De Nieuwe Meer junction, guided tours of a totally different order were being given. You went on safari in army trucks, visiting the work sites of the TriAX building consortium (Besix, Dura Vermeer, Heijmans). The widening of the A10 Zuid at the Schinkelbrug – which will see the addition of two extra lanes in both directions – is already well underway. This trip passed alongside some immense machinery and constructions for the extra bridges that are to be built here.

Live building work spectacle

At Amsterdam Zuid station you really hit the jackpot. On 14 June, you were able to witness live how we used enormous cranes to hoist a new roof for one of the train platforms into its final position.

Presentation

For the true aficionados, there was a presentation entitled ‘Lef en Liefde bij stadsontwikkeling’ (‘love and boldness in urban development’). Our designers and urban planners talked with passion about their vision for the development of Zuidas.

Concert

Finally, there was an unforgettable concert in Gustav Mahlerplein. Renowned musicians performed pieces by female composers who have been or are being given a street name in Zuidas. It was an intimate occasion that brought the future almost within touching distance.
