Life in Zuidas
Zuidas is developing into a vibrant urban district. Increasing numbers of people are coming to live here, which means the range of amenities is also increasing all the time. Various events, large and small, are also adding increasing colour to the neighbourhood.
Amenities
Zuidas has a lot to offer, including excellent sports facilities, education and healthcare services, as well as cinemas, great retail outlets and an attractive range of hospitality and catering. Not forgetting the weekly Thursday market in Gershwinplein, of course.

Events and shows
There are cultural events, such as concerts, film festivals and sports events. Institutions such as VU Amsterdam (Vrije Universiteit) and De Nieuwe Poort offer an appealing range of social and cultural programming. There are also cafés, restaurants and hotels that organise fascinating discussion evenings and live music. Zuidas is very rapidly making a name for itself as a fully-fledged part of the range of nightlife and leisure that Amsterdam has to offer.

We also regularly organise events and meetings, because we aim to find a pleasant way of updating you on everything that’s happening in Zuidas. You will find us in our Zuidas-Zuidasdok Information Centre and also on the streets when building activities are in progress.

New layout for the Beethovenstraat–Ravellaan junction

From 22 April to mid-July 2026, we will be working at the junction of Beethovenstraat and Maurice Ravellaan. During this period, we will complete the final layout of the junction. The pedestrian and cycle crossing will be closed, and motorists will also experience disruption.
Building 127 student homes at pace

In April 2026, construction will begin on Benten in the Kenniskwartier innovation district. Benten will be a residential building with 127 rental apartments for students of DUWO housing corporation. Contractor Plegt-Vos is moving quickly: ‘In 12 months, the building will be complete.’
Kop Zuidas becomes greener with new trees

Until Friday, 24 April 2026, we will plant seven trees in Gaasterlandstraat, alongside the SUD and Zuidoever buildings. This will make the easternmost residential area of Zuidas a little greener.
Definitive design approved for residential building Ceci
The definitive design for Ceci has been completed. The residential building will comprise 24 private sector apartments in the Kenniskwartier neighbourhood, ranging in size from 72 to 213 sq. m. Construction is expected to start in late summer 2026.
7 and 21 February: Brittenpassage preview event

The Brittenpassage, the additional passenger tunnel at Amsterdam Zuid, is nearing completion. You can come and take a look for yourself on Saturday, 7 and 21 February. You will find out how to access the trains and metros in the future, where to park your bike and where you can go shopping.
2025: full speed ahead with construction

The regeneration of Amsterdam Zuid station, the widening of the A10 Zuid and the development of the Zuidas district all proceeded at pace in 2025. The construction of the tunnel and renewal of the Amstel junction also became part of the picture.
Vertical maze of cables and pipelines in Ravel

In the new Ravel residential district over the last year, we have been working on an ingenious junction of cables and pipelines. The work involved digging alongside Beethovenstraat to a depth of around 5 m below street level. This not only caused disruption, but also produced some great pictures.
Kindercampus moves into brand-new building

During the 2025 Christmas holiday, the Kindercampus Zuidas is moving into brand-new accommodation at the heart of the Ravel residential district. The current building, 100 m to the east, will not remain unoccupied. The Willemsparkschool from Amsterdam Zuid is temporarily moving into it.
Zuidas ranks high among best ‘global business districts’

Zuidas is one of the world’s best business districts. Looking at Europe alone, Zuidas ranks fourth, after Paris, London and Frankfurt. Zuidas achieves high scores for its state-of-the-art offices, good public transport and focus on housing and amenities.

Plans for 35 shared transport hubs in Zuidas

Alongside Beethovenstraat next to Valley, we have set up a shared mobility hub. The intention is to make shared transport more attractive in Zuidas. There are plans to do this in several other places in Zuidas: we aim to have 20 shared hubs by 2026 and our long-term target is 35.

The Roman Catholic Cemetery R.K. Begraafplaats Buitenveldert – the oldest in Amsterdam – will be 190 years old this year. While Zuidas has been continuously changing around it, this has been a haven of tranquillity for almost two centuries. During ‘24-uur Zuid’ (24 hours in Zuid), you can come and take a look at this extraordinary place.

Temporary park next to The Pulse of Amsterdam

In early 2026, the Kenniskwartier (Knowledge District) will be getting its own temporary city park. The undeveloped plot next to The Pulse of Amsterdam will not be built on for 8 to 10 years. In the meantime, people in the area can enjoy trees, green areas and seating.
Water in Zuidas not yet of swimming quality

Just like in many other parts of the city, the quality of the water in Zuidas is not yet good enough for swimming. With one exception: the Nieuwe Meer lake. Elsewhere, we are working to improve it, by adding aquatic plants and creating nature-friendly banks.
Participation starts on ABN AMRO complex future plan

In the coming years, the ABN AMRO complex at Mahlerlaan 10 is to be (re-)developed into a lively and accessible area for housing, leisure and employment. This requires a change to the Environmental Plan ('Omgevingsplan') and the participation process about it will soon be starting.
Zuidas cultural event subsidy scheme continues in 2025

Building the first homes in the low-traffic Ravel residential district

In Ravel, construction work is underway on the first residential tower block of the future residential neighbourhood of Ravelly. It took a while for the ground floor to appear, but the building is now heading decisively skywards. ‘We are now building one floor in about three and a half weeks.’
12-18 June: watch as Ravellaan artwork is created

The future residential district Ravel is having an open-air exhibition. Between 12 and 18 June 2025, nine street artists will be transforming 120 m of construction hoardings in Maurice Ravellaan into colourful street art. Come along and watch it live. Alternatively, you can join a guided tour.
Tender launched for plot 2C in Kenniskwartier

On 2 June 2025, the tender procedure for plot 2C in the Kenniskwartier innovation district was launched. There are plans for rented housing on the corner of Gustav Mahlerlaan and Hildegard von Bingenstraat. Interested developers can submit proposals.
19 June in Mahlerplein: top musicians perform works by female composers

Come along to Gustav Mahlerplein between 15.30 and 16.30 on Thursday, 19 June 2025. World-renowned musicians, including Imara Thomas, Ernst Munneke, Maria du Toit and Vera Kooper will be performing music by female composers. Admission is free of charge.

Fitting out Convict for Ukrainians: will you help?

In the summer of 2025, around 100 refugees will be moving into Convict, the former monastery building in Beatrixpark. Before that, the building needs to be fitted out. The charity Stichting Care4Good is in search of volunteers who would like to help.
Kindercampus Zuidas to have rooftop garden with waterfalls

The construction of brand-new accommodation for the Kindercampus Zuidas is proceeding at pace. The building in the new Ravel residential district is now almost watertight and this week will see the contractor begin the finishing work on the interior and exterior.
