VU Main Building marks 50th anniversary

Exactly 50 years ago, on 12 April 1973, the VU Main Building opened its doors at De Boelelaan 1105. With a floor area of around nine hectares, it was one of Amsterdam’s largest and tallest buildings. There was not yet a trace of Zuidas to be seen.

VU Amsterdam research building has diaphragm walls

A huge hole, with construction workers hard at work with reinforcement steel and concrete. This is what can currently be seen of the new VU Amsterdam Research Building. The huge diaphragm walls that will soon protect the building from vibration are also now in the ground.
