Summer work on Brittenpassage and Parnassusweg

12 June to 3 September: Parnassusweg station entrance closed

We are removing pipelines right in front of the entrance to the railway platforms. For this reason, we will be forced to close this entrance from Monday, 12 June until Sunday, 3 September. The footpath and cycle path on the east side – where the station is – will be completely closed. Cyclists and pedestrians will be diverted via the west side.

The Parnassusweg station entrance is closed for works

June: Brittenpassage roof

In the week of 20 June, we are pouring the concrete for the sixth (the last but one) section of the roof for the new passageway. We will do that on our construction site between the metro tracks. The work will take place between 06.00 and 23.00. After the concrete has been poured, it will be power-floated.

June: construction pit for Brittenpassage

From 07.00 until 19.00 on Monday 26 and Tuesday 27 June, we will be vibro-driving sheet piles into the ground on the work site between the metro tracks at Amsterdam Zuid station. The sheet piles will enable us to create a construction pit in which we will dig out the Brittenpassage. To reduce resistance from the hard layers of soil, we will pump water into the ground while the sheet piles are being inserted. This will reduce noise nuisance.

July: GVB works on the metro track

The GVB is also working in the summer. There will be works on the metro track in the weekend of 1 and 2 July. This means that metros 51 (Isolatorweg-Central Station) and 53 (Gaasperplas-Central Station) will not be running. Metro 50 will operate a modified route and service between Isolatorweg and Gaasperplas. Metro 52 (North-South) and metro 54 (Gein-Isolatorweg) will run as normal.

Schedule for summer works

July: work site

On the grassy area between the courthouse and the A10, we will be creating a work site in the first three weeks of July. The Nieuw-Zuid construction consortium will use the site to store machinery and to load, unload and turn construction traffic around. This work site on Parnassusweg will be there until mid-2024.

24 July until 1 Oct: Parnassusweg closed to vehicles

Between 24 July and 1 October, cars and buses will be diverted via Strawinskylaan, Beethovenstraat and De Boelelaan and back to Parnassusweg. Cyclists and pedestrians will be able to continue to use Parnassusweg in both directions during this period.

August: sheet piles for metro viaduct

Metro 52 (the North/South line) currently arrives at the Zuid terminus on a single track. In the future, there will be two tracks that run via an additional metro viaduct across Parnassusweg to the railyard at Amstelveenseweg. For this additional metro viaduct, we are first constructing an abutment on the west side of Parnassusweg. To enable the construction of the metro viaduct in the Parnassusweg and a new rectifier station, we are inserting sheet piles into the ground to create a construction pit. We will be doing the work on work days between 07.00 and 19.00 between 9 August and 1 September. To reduce noise nuisance, we will pump water into the ground while the sheet piles are being inserted.

11 September until 1 Oct: construction of support pillar for metro viaduct

Because of the length of the new viaduct, we are also adding an additional support pillar in the middle of Parnassusweg. This will be between the cycle path and the traffic lane. In the abutment, we are building a new rectifier station: an electric system that ensures that the metro trains are supplied with power.

More to follow

We will of course keep you posted on progress. We will also update you on further work still to come.
