Photo report: wet start for work at Amsterdam Zuid

Anyone looking at our webcam at 22.00 will have seen the final few cars drive over the A10 Zuid from the direction of Schiphol or the A10 West. After that, everything went quiet. The red crosses above the road surface did their work and some heavy machinery quickly began to appear next to Amsterdam Zuid station.

The work started with the removal of the asphalt…

…while passengers were still waiting for the last train or metro.

Starting on Sunday morning, if anything the weather was even worse than during the night. After the layer of asphalt had been removed, the A10 was transformed into a pool of mud.

At the same time, the reason for all of this work gradually veered into view: two huge sections of the roof of the additional passenger tunnel at Amsterdam Zuid station – the Brittenpassage – sat waiting to be moved into their ultimate position on the evening of Wednesday, 9 August. The yellow runners were exposed. A short distance away, construction workers dug out the supports across which these runners will later transport the roof sections to their position.

Work could then start digging up around 100 m of the A10. We will keep you informed of what happens next.
