Over the holiday period, we asked quite a lot of your patience, with closures of the A4, A10 Zuid and A10 West motorways, as well as no train services at Amsterdam Zuid station. Zuidasdok used this disruption period to carry out works across almost the entire Zuidas area, with particular focus on the spectacular transport of a new bridge deck for the Schinkelbrug. But there was more: from piling works at the De Nieuwe Meer junction and the construction of an excavation pit for the renovation of the station passageway, to preparations for a sliding operation at the Vivaldipassage. Below is an overview in images.
Vivaldipassage
Beneath the A10 Zuid and the train and metro tracks, west of Amsterdam RAI station, we are building a new bicycle and pedestrian tunnel: the Vivaldipassage. In mid-April, we constructed the foundations for the roof of the tunnel beneath two of the four railway tracks (the southern pair). At the end of April and beginning of May, work continued beneath the northern pair of tracks. Soon, we will slide the roof of the passage into position.
Minervapassage
On both sides of the existing station passageway, we removed three railway tracks and part of a platform, meaning trains were temporarily unable to run. This allowed us to install retaining walls for the excavation pit in which we will later renovate the current Minervapassage, once the new Brittenpassage has opened. One of the logistical access routes for these works starts slightly further along at a construction entrance on Beethovenstraat, where we also installed retaining walls.
Brittenpassage
At the new Brittenpassage, we have now clearly entered the finishing phase. Works included the installation of the natural stone floor, passageway ceilings, façades for the commercial units and extensive technical installations – all focused on opening the passageway no later than 2027.
De Nieuwe Meer junction
For the widening of the A10 Zuid, we are constructing a new viaduct that will eventually carry traffic from the A4 to the A10 Zuid. This required four days and three nights of piling works. Along the Jaagpad (near the Schinkelbrug), we installed sheet piles. During the night of Friday, 1 May, following a seven-day journey by water, we lifted a new bridge deck into place at the Schinkelbrug.
12-18 May: disruption on the A4, A10 and at Amsterdam Zuid station
From Tuesday, 12 May at 22.00 until Monday, 18 May 2026 at 05.00, we will continue the regeneration of Amsterdam Zuid station and the construction of the future Vivaldipassage. During this period, major traffic disruption is expected on the south side of Amsterdam. The A4 and A10 Zuid will be partially or fully closed at various times. From 13 May, no trains will run to or from Amsterdam Zuid station for five days.
