Courthouse art provides comfort, distraction and consolation

The stunning new courthouse building is home to an extensive art collection that is also accessible to the public. It serves a very special purpose. ‘The art has a comforting effect in a place where very serious things happen.’

At a height of around 5 metres, the artwork ‘Love or Generosity’ by Nicole Eisenman is difficult to miss. The statue is in front of the new courthouse, on a square that will be accessible to everyone from mid-December 2020.

The New Courthouse from inside

Now that most of the scaffolding inside the new courthouse has been removed, it is finally possible to see what the NACH construction consortium and the court had always envisaged: a prominent, recognisable, authoritative and functional building, with some surprising elements.

Togetherness on the building site

Work on construction sites in Zuidas is still continuing. This also applies to the new courthouse. ‘In spite of everything, there’s a good atmosphere’, says Bauke van der Goot, process and community engagement manager for the new courthouse.
