Provisional design for Europaplein-Oost completed
The provisional design for Europaplein-Oost has been completed. In recent years, there have been several events where we have discussed the new layout of Europaplein-Oost with local residents. We’re interested in finding out what you think of the design.
We would usually present the provisional design at a special event to hear your views in person. Unfortunately, the coronavirus measures make that impossible. As an alternative, we are therefore presenting the provisional design in the form of a video. We look forward to reading your views underneath this message.
Attractive, pleasant place
This design is a result of several meetings. In April 2019, the first meeting was held where we asked local residents and users of Europaplein-Oost for their ideas on re-landscaping the area. The basic idea was to have an attractive, pleasant place with more greenery, fewer parking spaces and the artwork Virtual Fountains by artist Femke Schaap. We then set to work on all the ideas, suggestions, and points for improvement.

Draft design
In January 2020, we presented the draft design for the new layout. We received numerous reactions. Although many were positive, there were also some critical voices. Where possible, we have taken these views on board and incorporated them in the provisional design.
In the new Ravel residential district, something extraordinary is happening. To the south of the AFC football pitches, we are digging a canal: Ravelgracht. The fertile soil that we are removing is set to be reused in other places in Amsterdam.
The City of Amsterdam Executive is opting for a new approach to city development. Densification will feature prominently in it, including in Zuidas. This is revealed in the development strategy ‘Building neighbourhoods for the future’ (‘Bouwen aan buurten van de Toekomst’) that is based on diversity in the city.
On the so-called ‘de Boog‘ plot, construction work has started on The CubeHouse. This will be the new head offices of BNP Paribas Nederland and Arcadis. Remarkably, this office tower, developed by G&S&, will mostly be made out of wood.
