De Boelelaan, Eastern Section

The eastern section of De Boelelaan, between Europaboulevard and Beethovenstraat, has undergone a major facelift. Work began in March 2016 and continued until December 2017. De Boelelaan is now greener and even has its own canal. Traffic flows for cyclists and motorists have also been improved.

The redesign of the eastern section of De Boelelaan was necessary for several reasons. Traffic flow needed to be improved. The road surface was outdated, and the sewers needed maintenance. To make room for this, parts of the road and various cables and pipes had to be placed underground.

Four lanes and more green space

Now that all the work has been completed, De Boelelaan between Beethovenstraat and Europaboulevard is four lanes wide, with two lanes in each direction. The road has been resurfaced to reduce traffic noise. The avenue also has wide new bicycle and pedestrian paths. There are new rows of trees and green verges on both sides of road. To the north there is a new water feature – the Buitenveldertsegracht.
