Mahler 4 – Viñoly

Viñoly is an office tower 91 m in height. Its designers aimed to achieve unity and aesthetic cohesion, ensuring the tower rises naturally against the backdrop of the historic city.

The plan was to achieve as much floor area as possible in a relatively small surface area. To achieve this, instead of the traditional structure of a base, main body and crown, the decision was made to opt for a structure comprising three equal components, each made up of several layers. It is one of the tallest buildings in Zuidas.

This 91-metre-high office tower is made up of a steel skeleton with a concrete core to create stability. It features four protruding vertical curtain-wall profiles and emergency stairs ‘notched’ into the façade. The stairs wrap around the building, creating a dynamic visual effect. The plan was for the stairs to lead to a publicly-accessible rooftop terrace and serve as an evacuation route. For safety reasons, the stairs were closed off before the building was opened.
