Tram, bus, bicycle, taxi
Trams, buses and bicycles will all be part of the future Amsterdam Zuid station public transport hub, at the heart of Zuidas. All of this, combined with a taxi rank and a Kiss & Ride, will make opting to avoid using the car very attractive.
Bus station
Alongside Amsterdam Zuid station, in Eduard van Beinumstraat, there will be a bus station for local and regional buses. Whereas, in the current situation, passengers get on and off in Strawinskylaan and then have to cross Zuidplein by stairs or lift to get to and from the trains and metros, the new bus station will be much closer to the station. The stops will have the same look and feel as the railway and metro platforms and tram stops. The bus station is being built on top of the northern tunnel for the A10 Zuid, which is being diverted underground at the heart of Zuidas. This section of the tunnel therefore needs to be built before the bus station. The bus station is scheduled to open in 2033.

There will also be tram stops next to Amsterdam Zuid station, but on the south side in Arnold Schönberglaan. This will make transferring from one mode of transport to another significantly easier. The new tram stops will be built on top of the southern tunnel for the A10 Zuid, which is being diverted underground at the heart of Zuidas. This part of the tunnel will therefore need to be built before we can build the tram stops. Completion is scheduled for 2034.

Bicycle
The regenerated Amsterdam Zuid station will have plenty of bicycle parking on all sides. There are currently already three large underground car parking facilities close to the station. A further three will be added. In total, there will be parking for 11,000 bikes in 2030. An additional 2,600 spaces are being added with the Brittenpassage, 1,600 with the renovated Minervapassage and a further 2,400 next to Parnassusweg.

Taxi and Kiss & Ride
In the station area, between Beethovenstraat and Parnassusweg and Arnold Schönberglaan and Eduard van Beinumstraat, there will be no space for cars. The exceptions are taxis and a Kiss & Ride. There will be taxi ranks and a place to drop passengers off at the station in Matthijs Vermeulenpad, which can be accessed from Beethovenstraat.

From Tuesday, 12 May at 22.00 until Monday, 18 May 2026 at 05.00, we expect major traffic disruption on the south side of Amsterdam. The A4 and A10 Zuid will be partially or fully closed at various times. From 13 May, no trains will run to or from Amsterdam Zuid station for five days.
Construction of GVB fast charging station on schedule

27 April – 5 May: major disruption on the A4, A10 and at Amsterdam Zuid station

From Monday, 27 April at 21.00 until Tuesday, 5 May 2026 at 05.00, we expect significant traffic disruption on the south side of Amsterdam. The A4 and A10 Zuid will be closed at various times. From 28 April, there will be no train services to and from Amsterdam Zuid station for one week.
How do you design 10 hectares of public space?
In the future, the A10 Zuid will be routed underground over a distance of one kilometre. This will create around 100,000 square metres of (largely public) space above ground. Designing this space presents a range of challenges.
Spring holiday: work on tram 25 stop in Parnassusweg

From 16 February until 2 March 2026, work will be carried out on the temporary stop for trams 5 and 25 next to Parnassusweg. The work will include building a turning track to enable trams from Uithoorn to turn around. Various diversions will be in place.
Second-chance materials for Brittenpassage station plazas

We are set to relandscape the area around the new passageway at Amsterdam Zuid station. Since this will be temporary, we are trying to maximise the reuse of materials, such as bicycle racks, lamp posts, seating and even street paving.

Christmas holiday: railway platforms accessible via Parnassusweg

Until February 2026, access to the platform entrances in Parnassusweg will continue to be restricted on an alternating basis. Good to know: during the upcoming Christmas holiday, both platform entrances from the north and south side of the viaduct will be accessible as normal.

Plans for 35 shared transport hubs in Zuidas

Alongside Beethovenstraat next to Valley, we have set up a shared mobility hub. The intention is to make shared transport more attractive in Zuidas. There are plans to do this in several other places in Zuidas: we aim to have 20 shared hubs by 2026 and our long-term target is 35.
Strawinskypad closed for construction of GVB fast charging station
From October 2026, there will be five fast charging points for electric buses here.
From 3 November 2025 until October 2026, part of Strawinskypad will be closed. In Strawinskylaan located above it, the Amsterdam local transport company (GVB) will then be building a fast charging station for city buses.
Building new metro platforms for Amsterdam Zuid station

The construction of new metro platforms for Amsterdam Zuid station is now underway. They will be between the existing station entrance and the new Brittenpassage, just like the railway platforms. The new platforms are scheduled to be ready by 2027 at the latest. How is construction progressing?

Bikes and scooters to be removed from the station for work on A10 tunnel

From 4 August until 1 November 2025, we will be removing underground cables and pipelines at Amsterdam Zuid station in order to build the A10 tunnel. Before that, on 1 August, we will remove some of the bikes and scooters from M. Vermeulenpad and Beethovenstraat.
Work on temporary Parnassusweg tram stop starts on 19 July

Trams 5 and 25 are set to have a new temporary stop in Parnassusweg next to Amsterdam Zuid station. Amsterdam regional transport is starting the work on 19 July and there will be road closures as a result. The work will be completed by the morning of Monday, 25 August.

Heading to the station by bike, but where to park it?
With the summer holiday now over, the number of passengers in and around Amsterdam Zuid station is on the rise again. Many of them are arriving by bike, but not everyone has discovered where to find the (free) underground bicycle parking facilities. We provide an overview below.
Attention cyclists: changes to Piet Kranenbergpad

From 12 August until 2026, the Piet Kranenbergpad cycle path and footpath will be partially closed for the reconstruction of the De Nieuwe Meer junction. Piet Kranenbergpad runs across the construction site and will be used as a construction road.
Relocation of A10/Amstelveenseweg bus stop
Starting on 22 July 2024, we will be setting up a construction site on the south side of the A10, between Amstelveenseweg and Piet Kranenbergpad. To make this possible, the bus lane is being temporarily moved to Skûtsjespad – including the bus stop.
This is what the new Brittenpassage will look like
The start of 2027 will see the opening of the new passenger tunnel at Amsterdam Zuid station, the Brittenpassage. Station Technical Manager Marianne van Lochem and her team have thought of everything: from the choice of materials to the location of the gates.
Western Amstelveenseweg cycle path closed for six weeks
From Monday, 3 June until Friday, 12 July 2024, the cycle path on the west side of Amstelveenseweg will be closed for various works. Cyclists will be diverted and pedestrians will experience minimal inconvenience, if any.
Multiple works on Amsterdam road network in 2024

Amsterdam is set to experience a year of works on roads, bridges and the railway. On the south side, Zuidasdok is working to improve accessibility. Elsewhere, Rijkswaterstaat (the Public Works Department), ProRail and the City of Amsterdam are also carrying out works. ‘This year will still be relatively quiet.'
Temporary shed for museum tram next to Jachthavenweg

From 2 April until Friday, 28 June, a temporary tram shed is being built for the museum tram next to Jachthavenweg. This is expected to cause some disruption to traffic. Some parking spaces will also be temporarily out of use.
28-11 to 8-12: tram track maintenance in Parnassusweg
From 28 November until 8 December 2023, the GVB will be carrying out maintenance work on the tram track in Parnassusweg. GVB will be working at night on weekdays and night and day during the weekend from 1 to 4 December. Pedestrians, cyclists and car traffic will experience disruption.
Avoid having your bike removed

Do you regularly travel to Amsterdam Zuid station by bike? If you do, we have important news. Any bikes left around the station that are not parked in a designated spot, cycle rack or one of the (underground) bicycle parks can be removed.
Zuidas to create space for walking, cycling and public transport

The Sustainably Accessible Zuidflank Mobility Plan ('Mobiliteitsplan Zuidflank Duurzaam Bereikbaar') was approved in July 2023. This future vision of Zuidas and its surroundings envisages more space for pedestrians, cyclists and public transport – and less for cars. ‘We need a change in the way people travel.’
Upgrade for tram stop in Strawinksylaan
Between 23 January and 7 March 2023, the platforms for trams 5 and 25 in Strawinskylaan are being widened. A tram shelter will also be added to the northern platform and a second crossing will be put in place.
Maintenance work at Amstelveenseweg station
From Sunday 7 until Sunday 28 August, we are carrying out works at Amstelveenseweg station. This will involve replacing the tramlines and renovating the metro stop, making it safer and more comfortable. It is expected to cause some disruption.
