How do we keep Zuidas accessible and liveable?

In the period up to 2014, things are set to become extremely busy in the so-called Zuidflank, the area on the south side of Amsterdam of which Zuidas is a part and which stretches from the Schinkel/Nieuwe Meer to the Amstel, and from Stadionweg to Van Nijenrodeweg. For example, Zuidasdok will result in significant expansion for Amsterdam Zuid station and the North/South metro line will be extended to reach Schiphol. In the meantime, Zuidas will gradually develop into a modern city district where people live, work, spend time and study. But in this process, we are determined to ensure that the area remains liveable and accessible. The draft document entitled Mobiliteitsplan Zuidflank Duurzaam Bereikbaar (in Dutch) describes how we intend to do that.

More bicycles, fewer cars

The Zuidflank Mobility Plan outlines the strategy and measures we will take to ensure that the area can continue to thrive even as it becomes busier. There will be more space for public transport, cyclists and pedestrians. Cars will still be welcome, but in smaller numbers. In addition, by spreading travel more effectively across the day, we aim to reduce the use of cars and public transport at peak periods.

Consultation until 29 March

The draft plan is now complete. We will be happy to brief you on it during a seminar at the Thomaskerk on Thursday, 23 March 2023. On Monday, 27 March, you will also be able to attend a webinar online. You can register using the button at the bottom of this article. Until 29 March 2023, you can also use the button to put your questions or suggest ideas. Closer to the summer, the Amsterdam City Executive will decide on the plan. After that, it will become definitive.
