Emergency department entrance in Amstelveenseweg made safer

Just in front of the entrance to the emergency department of Amsterdam UMC, location VUmc (Amstelveenseweg), we have added a slight bend. This forces motorised traffic to reduce speed when reaching the entrance. We have also widened the entrance, so that approaching traffic attempting to turn has a good view of passing cyclists and pedestrians and vice-versa. Finally, we have added extra road markings to the cycle path along with signposts to draw cyclists’ attention to approaching traffic attempting to turn.

Slight delay

The works were originally planned for the first week of November. However, the recent wet weather meant that this was not possible. It would have caused the works to overrun significantly, especially the drying of the asphalt. This was something we were unable to accept at this busy location in Amstelveenseweg.
