Preparations for extra breakdown bay on A10 Zuid

We are adding the breakdown bay because the rush-hour lane on the A10 between the De Nieuwe Meer and Amstel interchanges is being dismantled in June 2024. This rush-hour lane is been replaced by a permanent carriageway, which will mean the hard shoulder will disappear. The work on the rush-hour lane is part of the structural renovation of the De Nieuwe Meer interchange, which involves widening part of the interchange and the A10 Zuid and making them safer. The extra breakdown bay next to Spoorslag will remain in place until the southern motorway tunnel opens.

Diversion

Between Monday, 29 January and Friday, 16 February, we will be closing Spoorweg to traffic between Beethovenstraat and Antonio Vivaldistraat to enable us to work safely. In this period, we will make preparations for the breakdown bay, which will involve removing any plants growing on the motorway embankment and adding sand. The breakdown bay will start from the A10 Zuid and will be put in place when the rush-hour lane is dismantled. During the road closure, cyclists and pedestrians will be diverted from Beethovenstraat via De Boelelaan to Antonio Vivaldistraat and vice-versa. Construction traffic will access the site from Beethovenstraat.

De Nieuwe Meer interchange

The structural renewal of the A10 Zuid is part of Zuidasdok and begins with the large-scale reconstruction of the De Nieuwe Meer interchange. The contract for this project was awarded in 2022 to the TriAX construction consortium (Besix, Dura Vermeer and Heijmans). We are building a new flyover and bridges across the Schinkel and widening the A10 Zuid from four to six lanes in each direction. We are creating the space needed to improve traffic flow on the A10 Zuid and make it safer. To make this possible, major changes are required on the De Nieuwe Meer interchange and later also at the Amstel interchange
