Emergency accommodation for families in Kenniskwartier

The City of Amsterdam bought the building in order to accommodate Amsterdam families who have become homeless due to personal circumstances. These generally tend to be single-parent families with one to three children. The families will stay there until they find a permanent place to live with the help of a professional care provider. In principle, families will be accommodated for 3 to 6 months, but not all families will be successful in finding housing within that period. The emergency accommodation itself will be permanent.

Renovation

The building at Amstelveenseweg 627 had a previous life as the Ronald McDonald House. This means that the layout is already suitable for accommodating families. There are communal areas, each family will have a living and sleeping area and there will be office space for support staff. However, the interior of the building is being renovated between April and September in order to prepare it for the emergency accommodation in October. These works are not expected to cause much local disruption.
