After a period of restrictions because of coronavirus, the Rialto VU movie theatre is now well and truly in business. From 20 to 27 August 2022, it will be the main venue for World Cinema Amsterdam, the annual festival featuring international movies, many of them by young directors.

Since 12 November 2021, the lecture hall benches in the New University Building at De Boelelaan 1111 have been doubling up as a cinema in the evenings. The Rialto movie theatre is showcasing some of the best films for local residents, students, hospital staff and people working in Zuidas.

At the end of 2019, the Vrije Universiteit (VU Amsterdam) proudly presented its new university building, the buzzing and hospitable heart of the campus in De Boelelaan. That pride is still felt – and with good reason. But, because of coronavirus, the Science Faculty is not buzzing yet.

Along De Boelelaan and next to SC Buitenveldert football club, the Vrije Universiteit (VU Amsterdam) will start construction of a new research building this year. In March and April 2020, we will be doing various works in preparation.
