Even in Zuidas, water management is a challenge. For example, the passenger tunnel at Amsterdam Zuid station has been flooded at times. But there are also some more pleasant surprises. Between 1 and 11 May 2023, trees are being planted in Buitenveldertselaan. The street was recently resurfaced and 34 plane trees are being planted where two tram stops used to be. Only car traffic will be affected by (limited) disruption.
The week of 13 March 2023 saw the removal and addition of oak, birch and Prunus trees in Amaliaplein. The high groundwater level has caused the death of eight trees which we are now in the process of replacing. All of the new trees will be planted on Friday, 17 March.
Construction work on Hogelandplein, the new public square in the Kop Zuidas neighbourhood, is set to start on Friday, 27 January 2023. Of course, it will cause a little disruption, but, in around six months’ time, the neighbourhood will have a pleasant green neighbourhood square to show for it. It will even have space for running water.
