More trees in a smarter Buitenveldertselaan

In the space of a year, the resurfacing of Buitenveldertselaan, 3 km in length, has been completed. Prior to that, the tall tram stop platforms at De Boelelaan/VU and A.J. Ernststraat were removed and replaced by a single new stop. The space created is now being used to plant 34 strong and fast-growing plane trees.

Tree planting in four phases

The trees will form an avenue on either side of the tram track. First of all, the planting along the track will be removed and the soil will be improved – the old soil will be removed and replaced by fresh soil in which the trees can thrive. The trees will then be planted and the site around the trees relandscaped. In order to minimise disruption, the work has been divided into four phases. The motorway will be narrowed to a single lane in places where work is being done. Cyclists and pedestrians can simply go right past.

1 and 2 May at the A.J. Ernststraat junction

In the first phase, we are planting nine trees alongside the eastern lane, in the direction of Parnassusweg, at the junction with Arent Janszoon Ernststraat.

3 and 4 May at the De Boelelaan junction

In the second phase, we will be working slightly further north, at the junction with De Boelelaan. This will involve eight trees, again along the eastern lane heading north towards Parnassusweg.

8 and 9 May at the De Boelelaan junction

In the penultimate phase, we will again be working at the De Boelelaan junction. This time, there will be eight trees planted along the lane on the other side, alongside the western lane heading south towards Amstelveen.

10 and 11 May at the A.J. Ernststraat junction

During the last two days, we will be planting nine trees alongside the western lane of Buitenveldertselaan at the junction with Arent Janszoon Ernststraat.
