Central parcel pick-up points in Zuidas

‘People delivering parcels have to visit an unnecessarily large number of addresses. And they all use the lifts in apartment blocks and offices’, says Diederik Imfeld, project manager at Green Business Club Zuidas. His organisation is convinced of the need for a new, different approach. One solution involves creating delivery hubs: central places where parcels can be dropped off. MyPup (My Pick Up Point) is a company that is already active in Zuidas. Floor Post from MyPup: ‘We’ve just installed a locker for parcels in the new residential building The George. Parcels from all of the distributors – such as PostNL and DHL – are initially delivered to our logistics distribution centre in Overamstel. From there, we transport them using electric cargo bikes to Zuidas, where they are delivered to the parcel locker on the same day. Residents are immediately notified that their parcel is in the locker, which can be opened using a unique code. For just one apartment block, that can make a difference of up to 15 journeys per day.’

Numerous advantages

Because costs are involved, the MyPup service still needs financial support from the home owners’ association or owner of the building. ‘It offers advantages for everyone’, says Post. Imfeld: ‘If this happens on a large-scale, it will greatly reduce traffic disruption, making Zuidas more sustainable and improving quality of life.’

Businesses

Green Business Club Zuidas and MyPup are also in talks with businesses in Zuidas about central delivery and pick-up points for their smaller parcels. Imfeld: ‘Of course it’s a bit quieter in Zuidas at the moment because of coronavirus, but when everything gets moving again, it will be great if businesses have found a sustainable way of dealing with the increasing flow of parcels.’ MyPup has already managed to spark enthusiasm among various businesses and office buildings. Post: ‘WTC, Symphony Offices, ABN AMRO, EDGE Olympic, and Infinity, among others, already have a central location where parcels are delivered, but there are plenty of other companies that don’t.’
