The plan is to create an office building and an apartment complex on the site in Fred Roeskestraat. The Central Government Real Estate Agency plans to hold a public sale of the plot to a party that will carry out this development. The relevant requirements are set out in a Memorandum of Principles that will be submitted to the Amsterdam City Council at the beginning of July 2021.

Development of the Parnas area

The temporary court building is located in the Parnas area, which is bounded by Fred Roeskestraat, Parnassusweg, the A10 and the Buitenveldert Cemetery. Several developments are underway in this neighbourhood, based on the principles established by the Municipal Executive in the Parnas Planning Memorandum at the end of 2019. In May 2019, a meeting was held for local residents to contribute their ideas about developing this area. On 22 April 2021, we organized an online information meeting together with the Central Government Real Estate Agency about the plans for the site of the temporary court building. More information about the cultural interpretation of the court building (part of which is designated as a protected monument) is expected to be available before the summer holidays.

Themes

Diversity, connection and green space are the key themes in the development of the Parnas area. Fred Roeskestraat marks the transition between the higher density development of Zuidas and the Spinoza area. This transition will also be reflected in the height of the new buildings on the site of the temporary court building. Fred Roeskestraat will remain a green thoroughfare with slow traffic. The new buildings on the site of the temporary court building will be consistent with the development direction chosen for Parnas. The emphasis will be on residential combined with offices and other facilities, with the look and feel of a green campus.
