Weekend work between the tracks

During the nights from 31 October until 2 November, we are removing a section of a sheet pile wall next to the metro tracks at Amsterdam Zuid station. In the weekend of 5 and 6 November, we will then insert several sheet piles into the ground, between the railway and metro tracks. The result will be a revised service for both metro and railway for two whole days. We also expect some noise nuisance.

Revised service and noise nuisance

One metro track and one railway track will be out of service from 01.00 on Saturday, 5 November until 05.00 on Monday, 7 November. Be sure to consult 9292.nl or the NS app before you start your journey. In order to ensure that the impact on public transport lasts as short a time as possible, we are using vibratory methods to insert the 20 m long sheet piles into the ground – this is twice as fast as pushing them in by other means. The vibratory drilling may cause some noise nuisance between 07.00 and 19.00. We are also working at other times, but the work will produce less noise.

Protecting glass dome

During the work on 5 and 6 November, the station passageway will remain accessible and you can of course continue to use the railway and metro. There is a glass dome above the entrance to the metro platforms. In order to ensure that you can reach the metro platform safely during the work, we are placing a protected structure underneath the glass dome. This structure will contain any damage. The work will take place in the week starting Monday, 24 October, but may run into the week after that. If that happens, we will only be working in the evenings and nights between 20.00 and 05.00, ensuring any disruption to passengers is minimal. The protective structure in the dome will become more visible by the day.

Start of the relocation

In the future renovated Amsterdam Zuid station, you will soon be able to access the metro platforms from two station passageways. However, the platforms are currently in the wrong position for that to be possible. We are building the second station passageway to the west of the existing one, which means that the metro platforms also need to move in that direction. This is what the work we are doing in November is all about. We are currently starting work on the retaining walls and will later be building foundation piles, abutments and roof sections for the metro tracks and platforms.

Zuidasdok works in November

Throughout November, we will be renovating the Minervapassage and preparing the relocation of the metro platforms to the other side of the station. We are also continuing work on the second passenger tunnel at Amsterdam Zuid: the Brittenpassage. On our work site in Benjamin Brittenstraat, we are building new sections of the roof that will be inserted into position during Ascension weekend 2023. During the nights from Monday 31 October until Wednesday, 2 November, we are removing a section of a sheet pile wall. The work is then scheduled to continue from 13 until 26 November, and we will update you about that later this week.
