Study into redevelopment of Meerparc office building

The building offers excellent opportunities for a mixed redevelopment that includes housing, offices and amenities. The Meerparc office building is located at Amstelveenseweg 638-684 in the Verdi neighbourhood. It currently accommodates a range of different commercial tenants. Its owner, First Sponsor, has approached the City of Amsterdam to explore the feasibility of redeveloping the building. The move has been prompted by anticipated changes in tenancy.

Positive response

The City of Amsterdam’s response to this initiative has been positive, since it fits in well with plans for this location. The Verdi Project Memorandum (Projectnota Verdi), which sets the framework for developing the area between Amstelveenseweg, de Schinkel and De Nieuwe Meer, was approved by the City Executive in 2019. In it, ‘consolidating’ by adding housing and amenities is one of the key pillars, alongside ‘making things greener’ and ‘connecting’. The key principle for redeveloping Meerparc will be to transform the existing office building into a mixture of housing, offices and amenities. The existing building is intended to be preserved as far as possible, but will increase in size. The ground floor is to be made more attractive and the building will be expected to be a better fit for the local community.

Feasible plan

In the period ahead, First Sponsor is exploring whether a feasible plan is possible within these parameters and making more specific agreements with the City of Amsterdam. These agreements will also encompass how the local community can be involved in the redevelopment. More clarity with regard to the development’s feasibility is expected by the summer of 2023.
