Parnassusweg closed for two months for traffic exiting city

Between 24 July and 1 October, cars and buses heading south (out of the city) on Parnassusweg will be diverted via Strawinskylaan, Beethovenstraat and De Boelelaan and back to Parnassusweg (see the map below). Cyclists and pedestrians will be able to continue to use Parnassusweg in both directions until 3 September. From 4 September until 1 October, cyclists (heading out of the city) will be diverted via the other side. The closure is necessary in order to prepare for the widening of the metro viaduct across Parnassusweg. This road closure is a follow-up to an earlier closure on the other side of the road (heading into the city). At that time, we were preparing the plot for construction of the CubeHouse office building.

Widening of metro viaduct

Metro 52 (the North/South line) currently arrives at the Zuid terminus on a single track. In the future, there will be two tracks that run via an additional metro viaduct across Parnassusweg to the railyard at Amstelveenseweg. For this additional metro viaduct, we are first constructing an abutment on the west side of Parnassusweg. In August, we will install sheet piles into the ground to create a construction pit to build the metro viaduct. We will then use vibratory methods to insert several sheet piles into the ground for the construction of a new rectifier station. This is an electric system that ensures that the metro trains are supplied with power. Because of the length of the new viaduct, we are also adding an additional support pillar in the middle of Parnassusweg. This will be between the cycle path and the carriageway. While inserting the sheet piles, we will pump water into the ground to reduce the resistance of the layers of hard soil. This will reduce noise nuisance.

Station entrance closed

The station entrance in Parnassusweg has been closed since 12 June. It will remain closed until 3 September. We are removing old pipelines right in front of the entrance to the railway platforms. Traffic controllers are on hand to direct pedestrians and cyclists to the other side of the road.
