The public’s favourite was the ‘Heart-warming Amsterdam’ (‘Hartverwarmend Amsterdam’) project by RAI Food & Beverages, which uses as much local produce as possible from Amsterdam and the surrounding area. As a new addition to this existing concept, RAI Amsterdam will now be offering as many plant-based products as possible.
The expert panel of judges chose the following projects as the winners.
Water & Green
The winner is Zandraket (Sand rocket), an ecological playground wilderness in the future Ravel family neighbourhood. The site has been designed for children aged 4 to 12. It makes an interesting contrast with the high-rise buildings in Zuidas. The Zandraket playground landscapes have been created by a team that includes Jan van Schaik and Arend Niebuur.
General & Climate
The Gerrit Rietveld Academie has taken the step towards an almost completely vegetarian restaurant. This will result in a significant reduction in CO2 emissions and other damaging climate impacts.
Buildings & Energy
!WOON offers free energy advice. The energy coaches are volunteers, trained and supported by !WOON. They also include staff from companies based in Zuidas.
Circularity & Waste
The Vermaat Groep BV won the award for its ‘In 100 days to zero food waste’ challenge, an initiative in which Deloitte is also participating.
Society & Economy
Vebego is a cleaning company that specialises in offering work to people who otherwise struggle on the labour market. It plays an exemplary role, by organising events aimed at making other companies aware that everyone counts.
Mobility & Logistics
Students at Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam (VU Amsterdam) who spend a year studying at university elsewhere in Europe are eligible for the VU Travel Grant. This grant encourages students to travel to their destination by train.
Initiators
The Sustainability Award is an initiative of Amsterdam Zuidas, Hello Zuidas and Green Business Club Zuidas. The award provides a platform for a range of initiatives that contribute to improving sustainability in Zuidas.
