- Kop Zuidas zoning plan to be revised The zoning plan for Kop Zuidas compiled in 2018 is being revised. This is mainly because the existing plan does not adequately meet the requirements for the residential care and community health centre envisaged for the area.
- Renowned landscape architect Piet Oudolf visits the Valley building On 21 June 2021, the world-famous landscape architect Piet Oudolf, who designed the gardens for Valley, visited the building for the first time and he was impressed by what he saw. We joined him to see how Valley is becoming a vertical green valley.
- Seventh edition of ARTZUID begins on 1 July ARTZUID, the internationally renowned art festival in Amsterdam Zuid, will begin on 1 July 2021. Together with founder Cintha van Heeswijck-Veeger, we check out the artworks in and around Zuidas. ‘We’ve been placing sculptures among the construction sites for years.’
- A stroll along Boerenwetering after the makeover We are renovating the pedestrian path that leads along Boerenwetering, between Wielingenstraat and Strand Zuid and Beatrixpark. We have already made a number of improvements, and by autumn 2021, the path will be the perfect place for a stroll.
- Environmental permit for station upgrade undergoes intensive preparation The definitive design for the Amsterdam Zuid public transport hub has been completed. We will shortly be submitting an application to the North Sea Canal Area Environmental Service (‘Omgevingsdienst Noordzeekanaalgebied’) for an environmental permit. This has been preceded by intensive preparation.
- Turmac building: space for ‘interplay with nature’ It started with a factory in Zevenaar, where art was introduced to prevent ‘a girl having to continually endure the same view’, followed by an office building in what is now Zuidas, that aimed to ‘offer a meaningful environment for people to work in’. That’s the history of the Turmac building, now a municipal monument.
- Losing those extra lockdown kilos Gyms and sports facilities are enthusiastically opening their doors again after a long period of closure. There are quite a few of them in Zuidas, but so far, they are not as busy as they could be, so they are looking for creative ways to get people who live or work locally moving again.
- Creating the third roof section of the Brittenpassage Fifty mixing trucks containing ten cubic metres of concrete each were needed to create the third roof section for the new pedestrian underpass at Amsterdam Zuid station on 9 June 2021. ‘It was quite a logistical challenge’, says Frank van Klaren of construction consortium ZuidPlus.
- Ron Bakker has been working on the WTC for 25 years Architect Ron Bakker (of PLP Architecture) knows Zuidas like the back of his hand. In 1996, he sketched the master plan for the WTC building. He also designed Tower Ten, which is currently under construction. And now he is working on a possible further expansion for the complex.
- Marigolds and pumpkins in this temporary school garden Soon, an enormous office building will be built on the plot of land between the EMA building and Van der Valk, but for the next eighteen months the plot will be home to a school garden for local children and the whole community. Years 4 and 5 at the AICS school have created a ‘community garden’ there – and anyone who lives or works in the area is welcome.
