The tendering process for the reconstruction of the De Nieuwe Meer interchange, including the bridges over the river Schinkel, has been officially launched. The project is part of the Zuidasdok project and aims to improve traffic flow on the A10 Zuid.
All you need to do is blink and there’s another totally new building in Zuidas. In less than a years’ time, it will be virtually impossible to avoid the Tripolis-Park ‘landscraper’. Building quickly and effectively is what Niels Beentjes, planning engineer at construction company G&S Bouw, enjoys doing.
It seems that Aldo van Eyck was ahead of his time when he designed Tripolis. Initially, in 1994, his light, open spaces were not particularly popular. These days, they are exactly what companies are looking for, and so this protected monument is getting a second lease of life.
On 31 March 2021, the City of Amsterdam adopted the investment plan for the second sub-section of the Verdi neighbourhood. A new residential area will be created on the site of Sporthallen Zuid, and the sports facilities will be moved to a new multi-storey structure.

The four columns of the future Tripolis Park landscraper are complete. Their stature means that they can be seen from afar. As a result, the ‘horizontal skyscraper’ is already a landmark, although the towers themselves will soon be hidden behind a covering.
