Next to the southern entrance to Valley, the first piece of Maurice Ravellaan is now in place. This avenue will be the access route to the new Ravel residential neighbourhood. A crossroads has now appeared where Mahlerlaan previously formed a T-junction with Beethovenstraat.
Starting on Friday, 19 November 2021, one lane for car traffic on the southern side and the southern cycle lane on De Boelelaan will be closed for at least six days, close to Antonio Vivaldistraat. This is because of urgent works.
In the weekend of 13 and 14 November 2021, we installed two additional switches in the metro tracks. These will enable metro trains to switch from one track to another. We need to do this to make it possible to have a larger work site, on which to build new roof sections for two passageways.
The Zuidasdok meetings scheduled for 24 and 25 November about the De Nieuwe Meer and Amstel interchanges will not go ahead. Because of the stricter coronavirus restrictions, we will be unable to organise these physical meetings in a responsible way.
The Zuidasdok programme includes some major work on the De Nieuwe Meer and Amstel interchanges. We are organising meetings to inform you about this on Wednesday 24 and Thursday, 25 November 2021. They will also include information about other Zuidasdok projects.
Until the end of 2021, we are working on the metro tracks from Amsterdam Zuid station to just past RAI. We are adding five switches. This will cause some disruption. The work is required in order to create a larger work site between the metro tracks at Amsterdam Zuid station.
The new Amsterdam Zuid station not only needs to be attractive, it also has to be a safe environment for passengers and passers-by. That means it must meet fire safety standards. ‘The aim is to rule out as many fire risks as possible and always enable an effective evacuation route.’
The new Amsterdam Zuid station will have platform roofs that are 6 metres tall. So how do you expect to maintain them? This is not the only maintenance challenge that required a solution in the design of the new station. ‘It involves a lot of thinking and solving of puzzles.’
Major maintenance work is expected to start in Wielingenstraat in July 2022. We have already sounded out local residents and users for their views on what should be done. These have now been incorporated in a provisional design that we will be happy to tell you more about on 11 October 2021.
Three roof sections are now in place under the tracks for the new pedestrian passageway at Amsterdam Zuid station. The construction sites look neat and tidy, but appearances can be deceptive. By popular request, here is a preview of the next phases of the work.
Amsterdam Zuid station is set to have new metro platforms, between the existing passageway and the new passageway currently under construction. We will need to make space for them. So, how will this be done and how will it affect passengers and local residents?
