Dig-dig-dig for extra station passageway

After years of construction away from public view, the digging has started for the passenger tunnel at Amsterdam Zuid station: the Brittenpassage. We are removing 50,000 cubic metres of sand from underneath the A10, metro and railway tracks. And the site is spectacular to behold.

A dive into the world of sheet pile walls

In Zuidas, we are building quite a lot of construction pits, often surrounded by steel sheet pile walls. But not all these walls are the same. The method used to drive a sheet pile into the ground can also vary according to the location. We take a look at how it all works.

Contractor Nieuw-Zuid to continue with next phase of station regeneration

The Nieuw-Zuid construction consortium (Mobilis, Boskalis, Van Gelder) has officially been given the go-ahead for the next phase of the regeneration of Amsterdam Zuid station. This will involve widening and raising the height of the existing station passageway (the Minervapassage) and making modifications to the railway platforms.

Reminder: A10 Zuid closed in the direction of Schiphol for two weekends

Smooth shifting operation at Amsterdam Zuid in photos

On the evening of Wednesday, 9 August, it was finally time for the big event: shifting two sections of the roof for the Brittenpassage, the second passenger tunnel at Amsterdam Zuid station, into position millimetre by millimetre. 'You don’t want them driving into the construction pit'

How are motorists responding to the eight-day closure of the A4 and A10 Zuid? We took a look inside the regional traffic centre of Rijkswaterstaat (Public Works Department). ‘There are certainly quite a few drivers stopping along the roadside to check their satnavs.’

Photo report: wet start for work at Amsterdam Zuid

The evening of Saturday, 5 August 2023 saw the start of work on the additional passageway at Amsterdam Zuid station. We are doing the work now because the summer is relatively quiet. But for the construction workers, it already feels more like autumn. Our photos below offer an initial impression.

Demolition work continues on car park under A10 Zuid

We are currently in the process of partially demolishing the former Atrium car park underneath the A10 Zuid. This work is necessary because this is where the entrance to the additional station passageway – the Brittenpassage – will be. All of the concrete removed will be reused.

A10 Zuid to get slight bend after summer works

Between 5 and 14 August 2023, the A4 and A10 Zuid will be closed for a period of eight days. After that, we will build the A10 back with a small ‘meander’ slightly to the south. This will create space to widen the most southerly railway platform at Amsterdam Zuid station.
