Upgrade for tram stop in Strawinksylaan

In 2021, we reported that the start and end stops for tram 25 would be temporarily relocated to Eduard van Beinumstraat, closer to the station. The idea was to enable passengers to change onto the train more quickly. However, this turned out to involve numerous movements and adaptations to various stops and also proved too expensive for a temporary situation. For this reason, the decision was made last year to upgrade the existing stop in Strawinskylaan to make it more comfortable to change onto the train. Our partner Vervoerregio Amsterdam (Amsterdam regional transport) will be starting the work on 23 January and is set to complete it in the night of 6/7 March.

Widening of northern platform

In order to be able to widen the platform safely, the Vervoerregio is using the road in the direction of Parnassusweg as space in which to work. For this reason, motorists will be diverted via the bus stop from Monday 23 January until Wednesday 15 February. During that period, buses will stop slightly further down Strawinskylaan. Additionally, from 6-11 February, Strawinskylaan will be completely closed to traffic in the direction of Parnassusweg from 20.00 until 05.00. Motorists will be diverted via De Boelelaan.

Widening of southern platform

From 13 February until 3 March, it will be the turn of the southern platform and Strawinskylaan will be completely closed in the direction of Beethovenstraat between the entrance to the WTC car park and Eduard van Beinumstraat. It will still be possible to access Eduard van Beinumstraat from Parnassusweg but through-traffic in the direction of Beethovenstraat will also be diverted via De Boelelaan. The taxi rank will be moved temporarily to a position past the car park entrance.

Completion of work

The Vervoerregio will do the final work in the night of Monday, 6 and Tuesday, 7 March, including removing the temporary taxi rank. During that time, traffic heading for Beethovenstraat will be diverted via De Boelelaan for a final time.

Noise nuisance

The work will be done as far as possible on weekdays and during the day in order to keep noise to a minimum. However, in order to prevent too much disruption to the tram service, work will also occasionally be done at weekends, in the evenings and at night.

Amsteltram and Zuidasdok

Line 25, ‘the Amsteltram’, is a quick and frequent connection between Amsterdam Zuid station and Westwijk (and by 2024, even Uithoorn). Strawinskylaan is the start and end point for this tram and this will remain unchanged for now. At the same time, the Vervoerregio is investigating whether the current Parnassusweg stop can be relocated and extended. This will mean that by 2027 at the latest, when Zuidasdok opens the second station passageway at Amsterdam Zuid station it will also be possible to change between trams and trains in comfort there. Ultimately, there will be a new tram stop in Arnold Schönberglaan, on top of the southern passenger A10 motorway tunnel. But that is still some years off.
