After six months of demolition work, the contractor du Prie is now ready to start work on the new glass exterior of the Strawinskyhuis. The first plates of glass will soon be put into place. ‘It will be a radical transition – from dark and closed, to light and open.’

And all this despite a second year of working from home. With our thanks to all the people who worked on all those construction sites, here’s a look back on all the progress we made in 2021.
The owner of WTC Amsterdam, CBRE Investment Management, is conducting a masterplan study on the long-term future structure of the entire WTC complex. This means that the extension work on towers A and B will not be happening, at least for now.
On Tuesday, 28 September, Amsterdam Zuidas organised the Green Walk through Verdi. With around 45 local residents, we took a walk through the area and discussed the Verdi Green Plan ('Groenplan Verdi').
With work now finished on the 2Amsterdam office tower, the transformation of one of the oldest buildings in Zuidas is complete. Although the former Twin Towers no longer both serve as offices, they still unmistakably form a single unit.
Valley is now virtually complete. Developer EDGE and the Valley construction consortium have successfully built a multifunctional building that will give Zuidas a new look. Hundreds of construction workers have spent around three and a half years working on it. Below is a visual retrospective.
Valley, the iconic building that is nearing completion, is an architectural tour de force. Digital computer models have made a vital contribution to that. Arup subjected the design to tests that included such factors as daylight, hours of sun and privacy.
The renovation work on Europaplein-Oost, opposite the RAI, will be starting on 8 November 2021. Before it can be relandscaped, some things will need to be removed. By the summer of 2022, the neighbourhood will have a new green area to enjoy.
After a year of construction, the steel structure of EDGE Stadium – the former headquarters of Loyens & Loeff – is now as solid as a rock. This means that the finishing work on the new floors can now start, a key part of the building’s upgrade.
The very last plot in the Mahler neighbourhood, in the heart of Zuidas, will have an office building built on it. By mid-2024, BNP Paribas Nederland, Arcadis and G&S Vastgoed will jointly have a sustainable head office on the plot: CubeHouse. The three parties are developing the building themselves.
A sustainable and multifunctional meeting place, with the delivery and transport of goods underground and housing on top. That is the future plan for the area around the RAI. In a letter to the Council, Deputy Mayor Everhardt has expressed his support for this Masterplan.
