In Zuidas, we’re proud of our green spaces. They boost quality of life in the area and also prove useful during heavy downpours or extreme temperatures. But Japanese knotweed is something we would rather see the back of. ‘Not everything green is welcome.’

A10 closed for eight days ‘Good coordination will be crucial’

Construction manager Jeroen Monnik is responsible for installing the roof for the new station passageway at Amsterdam Zuid station in August 2023. We will be closing the A10 Zuid for eight days to enable it to happen. ‘Everything needs to be running again by 14 August.’

Heavy precision work at Amsterdam Zuid station

Between 5 and 14 August 2023, the A4 and A10 Zuid will be closed in the direction of Utrecht. There will also be a reduced train service. In this period, we will be moving two roof sections into position for the additional passageway at Amsterdam Zuid station: the Brittenpassage. So, how are we doing this?

Concrete pouring for fifth roof section of Brittenpassage a success

On Wednesday, 12 April 2023, the concrete was poured for the fifth roof section of the new Brittenpassage. The logistics involved meant that there were numerous brief delays in Parnassusweg. Music and chocolate provided a welcome distraction during the waiting time.

Cyclists and pedestrians using Parnassusweg on 12 April 2023 will need to watch out. They can expect significant disruption next to Amsterdam Zuid station caused by trucks transporting concrete. During the morning rush hour, we also planned to inject a little fun into the process.

Work on new Amsterdam Zuid station in April

In April, we are continuing our work on the regeneration of Amsterdam Zuid station. We will be inserting sheet piles into the ground and pouring concrete for the fifth roof section of the additional passenger tunnel, the Brittenpassage.

Weekend work on sheet piles at Amsterdam Zuid station

In the weekend of 18 and 19 March 2023, we will again be working on sheet piles between the metro tracks at Amsterdam Zuid station. The work was originally planned for late January and we are now playing catch-up.

Minor subsidence closes one metro track

Following Zuidasdok works carried out during the weekend of 11 and 12 February 2023, it has emerged that one of the metro tracks at Amsterdam Zuid station has suffered minor subsidence. As a precaution, the GVB has decided to close this track temporarily. A reduced metro service is running.

Construction work starts on fifth roof section for Brittenpassage

Preparation work has started on the construction of the fifth roof section for the new passenger tunnel at Amsterdam Zuid station, which will be called the Brittenpassage. We are currently working on the formwork, into which the concrete for the new section will be poured in the spring of 2023.

Roof section for second station passageway moved closer to A10

On 24 January 2023, the next section of the roof for the second passenger tunnel at Amsterdam Zuid station was moved closer to the A10. The operation was watched by dozens of interested people. We also captured the excitement on film and photographs.

Amsterdam Zuid station sheet piling works set to continue until summer

At Amsterdam Zuid station, we will be inserting sheet piling and foundation piles into the ground until May 2023. This is to enable the construction of the second passenger tunnel and the renovation of the existing Minervapassage. The work is expected to cause occasional disruption.

Come and watch us move 3,000,000 kg of steel and concrete

Alongside the A10 Zuid, the fourth roof section for the Brittenpassage lies ready and waiting. On Tuesday, 24 January 2023, we will be moving this colossus, weighing 3,000,000 kg, closer to the A10 in order to make space for the construction of the fifth roof section.
