Plans for Kop Zuidas to have a residential care centre for former homeless people on plot K will not go ahead. For the centre to be affordable, at least 30 housing units were needed. There is not sufficient space for that. The tender procedure for the plot will be in the second quarter of 2024.
Kop Zuidas now has another brand-new residential building. With its 101 energy-efficient private sector apartments, The Newton in Gaasterlandstraat is set to be a valuable addition to the neighbourhood. We took a look at the newly-completed complex.
It will not be very long before The Newton is completed in Kop Zuidas. When it comes to the appearance and quality of this energy-efficient complex, it is obvious that no expense has been spared. ‘This is genuine craftsmanship: in no way is this standard housing construction.’
In the Kop Zuidas area, the most easterly part of Zuidas, there is a lot happening at the same time. As contractors work on new buildings, we are working on public spaces. How much progress is being made? We present a summary of the works and schedules below.
The completion of Crossover, in the Kop Zuidas neighbourhood, is entering the final straights. On the outside, the contractor is putting the finishing touches to the façade, which features aluminium panels with strips of stone affixed to them. Inside, the finishing details are being added.
Although construction work on The Newton started heading upwards from the start of 2021, after reaching its highest point on 10 March 2023, the builders are now working their way downwards. Floor by floor, the scaffolding is being dismantled and the finishing touches put to the façade.
In the upcoming period, we will be doing a lot of work on the public space in the Kop Zuidas neighbourhood. In December 2022, we will be removing the construction road next to Crossover. We will then be renewing the street, putting the new square in place and planting trees. This will take until autumn 2023.
Demolition work on the building in Zuidas known as Old School is set to start in November. The building is making way for housing and a small park. Before the demolition can start, several trees need to be felled. The bats in the Old School building will also be offered a new home.
The construction of Crossover in the Kop Zuidas neighbourhood is progressing fast. The exterior of this multifunctional building is now virtually wind and waterproof. Inside, the contractor has started on the finishing work, while also adding the brick façade to the exterior.
The three bicycle tunnels around the RAI are getting a makeover. The tunnel under Europaboulevard will be closed between 30 April and 8 May. A diversion will be put in place for cyclists and pedestrians. The other two tunnels will stay open.
