The word ‘avenue’ probably conjures up an image of tall trees and elegant houses. The newest avenue to be created in Zuidas – Maurice Ravellaan – still has a long way to go before it looks like that, but the first work has already begun. Ravellaan will be the principal road serving the new Ravel residential area.
If everything goes smoothly, the City Council will officially approve the zoning plan for the new Ravel residential district in the summer of 2021. We have held talks on several occasions with businesses, employees and residents nearby in order to take their ideas on board as much as possible.
‘A decade ago, Zuidas was not quite ready for Valley. Now, it is.’ These are the words of Boudewijn Ruitenburg, Chief Operating Officer at EDGE, the developer behind the project that will be completed in late summer 2021.
The relocation of Goed Genoeg sports park, with AFC as its main tenant, is almost complete. There is just one more pitch to be relocated. The old clubhouse also needs to be demolished. Work on that started on 20 January 2021. It's a bitter-sweet moment.
Kindercampus Zuidas education centre has been allocated a new site in the future Ravel residential district. This has been agreed between the Public Education Foundation Stichting Openbaar Onderwijs aan de Amstel and the City of Amsterdam. It marks the first step in setting up the school in the new district.
The draft zoning plan for the ‘Zuidas-Ravel residential district’ has been open for consultation since 24 December 2020. Ravel will be a new residential district with around 1,350 homes. Work is set to start in 2022. The consultation period lasts until 3 February 2021.
Last summer saw the three core sections of Valley reach their highest point. The next milestone involves building a steel frame in the shape of a doughnut. In it, there will ultimately be a huge skybar.
We are about to lay the cables and pipelines for the Ravel residential district, on which construction is set to start at the end of 2022. This work will visibly reveal the contours of the new road Maurice Ravellaan. Preparations start on 14 September.
The two new AFC football pitches have now been completed. Project supervisor Mascha de Haan: ‘This means that they can now officially be used. It’s actually already happened, unofficially.’
Valley is gradually taking shape – the unique design is increasingly making its mark on the horizon. The Valley Amsterdam construction consortium recently published a video focusing on the building worker.
Zuidas will soon have a new residential neighbourhood: Ravel. Construction is set to start at the end of 2022, but there have been years of preparation leading up to that. As project manager, Monique Soe-Agnie has been very closely involved.
Starting in 2022, a new green, car-free neighbourhood called Ravel will be created in Zuidas, providing 1,350 homes. Most of these will be relatively large, and in the social rental or mid-range rental sectors. They will be located in a park-like setting, with plenty of space for play and recreation.
