Starting on 9 October, we will be removing the cycle path that leads from Beethovenstraat, between the Stibbe and AkzoNobel offices, to Beatrixpark. It runs diagonally across the site on which we will be building housing in the years ahead.
Work is currently in progress on Kapel & Convict in Beatrixpark to prepare for the accommodation of 100 Ukrainian refugees at the end of this year. From the 31 May 2023, construction traffic will be able to access the site by means of a pontoon floating in the pond. This will ensure that the busy cycle path remains free.
Because of construction work, Parnassusweg will be closed to cars and buses travelling in the direction of the city in the last weekend of May and first weekend of June 2023. This will be followed in the summer by a two-month road closure for cars travelling out of the city.
The crossing over the road and tramlines in Parnassusweg has now been completed. This means that pedestrians heading from Amsterdam Zuid in the direction of VU Amsterdam can now avoid the busy junction between Buitenveldertselaan and De Boelelaan.
Between 19.00 and 01.00 on the evening of Friday, 2 December, we will be working on the corner of Strawinskylaan and Beethovenstraat. Resurfacing work was recently completed here, but an inspection has revealed that the asphalt was not properly applied. We will now rectify the problem.
Starting on Friday, 11 November, we will be closing Beethovenstraat in a southerly direction during three consecutive weekends. This is in order to enable resurfacing work as part of the relandscaping of the area around WTC Tower Ten.
From Friday, 2 September until Friday, 21 October 2022, there will be further traffic disruption and potentially also noise nuisance in Beethovenstraat, between Gustav Mahlerlaan and De Boelelaan. This is because of works in preparation for the new Ravel residential district.
On the south side of the A10, along Arnold Schönberglaan, we have set up a shared transport hub. Travellers will be able to use it to access a shared bike, scooter or car. The hub is a pilot and will be here until 2023.
Two new housing complexes are set to be built behind the AkzoNobel, Stibbe and the St. Nicolaaslyceum buildings. To enable construction to happen, we are creating a site access road starting on Monday, 13 September 2021. It will be used for work on the Kapel & Convict site.
Your bicycle will be removed if you leave it in the street. Around Mahlerplein, scooters parked anywhere except within the designated parking spaces will be ticketed and fines will be issued. Amsterdam Zuid local council plans to introduce these rules later this year, following years of complaints.
On 11 January 2021, we began redevelopment work on the southern section of Mahlerplein. Assistant project manager Doeke Brouwers: ‘It marks a great start to the new year and the end result will already be visible by March.’
