Summer work on Brittenpassage and Parnassusweg

Zuidas is much less busy during the summer. But, for us, this is actually a reason to continue working hard, including on the construction of the additional passageway at Amsterdam Zuid station: the Brittenpassage. Here’s an overview of our plans up to October 2023.

Part of new roof Minervapassage now in place

During the night of 9-10 June 2023, we moved the first roof section for the existing passageway at Amsterdam Zuid station around 114 m to the east. The huge sheet of concrete is now well and truly in position. We take a look back at the process.

12 June: station entrance in Parnassusweg closed for 13 weeks

From 12 June until early September 2023, the station entrance in Parnassusweg will be closed. During that period, we will be removing underground pipelines just in front of the entrance. It will still be possible to access Amsterdam Zuid station via the entrances in Zuidplein and Mahlerplein.

Not everything green is welcome in Zuidas

In Zuidas, we’re proud of our green spaces. They boost quality of life in the area and also prove useful during heavy downpours or extreme temperatures. But Japanese knotweed is something we would rather see the back of. ‘Not everything green is welcome.’

A10 closed for eight days ‘Good coordination will be crucial’

Construction manager Jeroen Monnik is responsible for installing the roof for the new station passageway at Amsterdam Zuid station in August 2023. We will be closing the A10 Zuid for eight days to enable it to happen. ‘Everything needs to be running again by 14 August.’

Meeting about temporary courthouse plots

There are plans for housing and offices in the location where the temporary courthouse used to be. For that to happen, the zoning plan will need to be changed. We are organising an information meeting together with the Central Government Real Estate Agency (RVB).

9 to 11 June: another diversion in station passageway

In the Minervapassage, the existing entrance to Amsterdam Zuid station, we are replacing the roof. In the evening of 9 June 2023, we will be moving a section of the new roof into position. This means that there will be another diversion in the passageway from 9 until 11 June.

9 June: Amsterdam Zuid station to get new roof

Starting on the evening of Friday, 9 June, Amsterdam Zuid station will be the scene of a spectacle. We are moving a gigantic section of the new roof for the station entrance – the Minervapassage – into position. And you can come and watch the operation in person. All you need to do is register.

Heavy precision work at Amsterdam Zuid station

Between 5 and 14 August 2023, the A4 and A10 Zuid will be closed in the direction of Utrecht. There will also be a reduced train service. In this period, we will be moving two roof sections into position for the additional passageway at Amsterdam Zuid station: the Brittenpassage. So, how are we doing this?

Sporthallen Zuid set to stay, no housing construction

The relocation of the Sporthallen Zuid sports complex will not be happening after all. The complex will be refurbished and extended on its current site, as the 2023 Spring Memorandum (‘Voorjaarsnota 2023’) reveals. This puts an end to the planned construction of 550 homes in that area.

Parnassusweg closed for two weekends in city direction

Because of construction work, Parnassusweg will be closed to cars and buses travelling in the direction of the city in the last weekend of May and first weekend of June 2023. This will be followed in the summer by a two-month road closure for cars travelling out of the city.

Work starts to increase height of Amsterdam Zuid station passageway

On 5 May 2023, we started replacing the roof of the existing passageway at Amsterdam Zuid station. In the future, it will be much taller and wider than it is now. To make that possible, we demolished part of the existing roof. A photo report.
