The completion of PI59, in Prinses Irenestraat, is in sight. In less than two years, the contractor has transformed the building from a brutalist bunker to an ultramodern Philips headquarters. It is a truly amazing transformation.
On the so-called ‘de Boog‘ plot, construction work has started on The CubeHouse. This will be the new head offices of BNP Paribas Nederland and Arcadis. Remarkably, this office tower, developed by G&S&, will mostly be made out of wood.
From 15 January until Friday, 8 March, we will be relandscaping the public area around the new Strawinskyhuis. As a result, Strawinskypad will become accessible again. There will be some noise disruption, especially during the first week.
We are relandscaping the square in front of Thomaskerk church in Prinses Irenestraat. We will be adding new planting and there will also be seating. The aim is to give the square added community appeal. We will start on 23 October 2023 by working on pipelines under the square.
At the start of 2023, people in the Prinses Irenebuurt area had an opportunity in two rounds of digital consultation to express their views about the future use of the PI59 parking deck and the street next to it. Should it be used for plants and flowers, a boules court or a basketball field?

On 2 June 2023, Circl brought an end to the programming and room hire in the sustainable pavilion in Gustav Mahlerplein. But Circl is now moving online to take an extra step towards a circular economy. The restaurant and rooftop bar will remain open.
From 5 to 17 June 2023, we are digging test trenches at different locations in Prinses Irenestraat. Our aim is to map out the underground cables and pipelines. Car traffic will be diverted and we expect some noise nuisance.
Because of construction work, Parnassusweg will be closed to cars and buses travelling in the direction of the city in the last weekend of May and first weekend of June 2023. This will be followed in the summer by a two-month road closure for cars travelling out of the city.
Starting on 1 May 2023, we are inviting the local community to suggest ideas for the pocket park between PI59 and law firm Freshfields. On Wednesday, 12 April 2023, the concrete was poured for the fifth roof section of the new Brittenpassage. The logistics involved meant that there were numerous brief delays in Parnassusweg. Music and chocolate provided a welcome distraction during the waiting time.
For the development of CubeHouse, permission has been granted to deviate from the zoning plan currently in force. A permit was issued on 5 April 2023 and is now open for consultation for six weeks. The application for planning permission will now also be submitted swiftly.
