The plans for OBA NEXT combine three big ambitions – a public library for the future, a public space at the heart of Zuidas that will contribute to cultural goals and a place where all residents of Amsterdam can improve their skills (including their digital skills). This is the essence of what we are asking participating parties to come up with in their development plans for Zuidas. Registrations opened on 15 July 2021.
Great news for Zuidas and the city: on 8 July 2021, the City Council approved the zoning plan for the Zuidas – Ravel residential neighbourhood. The plan will enable the development of a new, leafy family neighbourhood in Ravel, with 1,350 homes, 750 of which will be suitable for families.
As we have reported before, there are plans to build homes and offices on the site where the temporary court building currently stands. Those plans have now been modified in order to achieve the best possible quality for future residents. The new design chosen features a base building with two towers.
The zoning plan for Kop Zuidas compiled in 2018 is being revised. This is mainly because the existing plan does not adequately meet the requirements for the residential care and community health centre envisaged for the area.
On 27 May 2021, the City Council approved the zoning plan for two plots in the Vivaldi neighbourhood. This clears the way for the construction of two office buildings, temporary parking for bikes and scooters and various facilities.
Zuidas and CBRE Global Investors are working on a feasibility study for a possible new development to the south of the WTC, in Mathijs Vermeulenpad. In addition to the plans for Tower Ten, the WTC complex itself may also be expanded.
On 31 March 2021, the City of Amsterdam adopted the investment plan for the second sub-section of the Verdi neighbourhood. A new residential area will be created on the site of Sporthallen Zuid, and the sports facilities will be moved to a new multi-storey structure.
Close to Beatrixpark, two apartment buildings with a total of around 350 homes are being built in the next few years. The area between and around them will be given new green landscaping. Until 13 April 2021, you can contribute your ideas about the design online.
In OBA NEXT, Zuidas is set to have a special learning and development facility where everyone will soon be welcome. Various parties are now joining forces to make a success of this new meeting place.
The Vivaldi neighbourhood, to the east of Zuidas, is set to undergo further development in the years ahead. A new zoning plan is being worked on in order to enable the development of two very special offices. Part of the plan also includes more attractive and greener streets.
Zuid City District is extending the enforcement zone for bikes and scooters parked where it is not permitted. This is partly in response to complaints about parking on the southern section of Mahlerplein. The new rules are expected to apply from May.
Zuidas is set to welcome yet another housing development. In this case, it will be 550 new homes on the current site of the Sporthallen Zuid sports complex. Moving this elsewhere will create space for a new neighbourhood, featuring plenty of green areas and right next to sports and waterside amenities and schools.
