Friday art walks in May and June

On six consecutive Fridays in May and June 2022, you can enjoy an art-themed walk through Zuidas. The route takes you past a variety of art collections and exhibitions, including an exhibition by the Bijbels Museum (‘Biblical Museum’) in Circl Pavilion.

Plan for Art Bridge across De Boelegracht open for consultation

It has taken a while, but the plan for the new Art Bridge (‘De Kunstbrug’) across De Boelegracht is now open for consultation. A briefing for local residents about the design was held on 12 April 2022. Interested parties now have until 14 May 2022 to submit their opinions.

Rising construction costs put paid to Conservatorium

The Conservatorium van Amsterdam music academy will not be setting up an annex in the monumental buildings known as Kapel & Convict in Beatrixpark after all. Prices on the construction and energy markets have increased so explosively that the financial risks are too great.

Former British School makes way for housing

The former main building of the Amsterdam British School in Fred. Roeskestraat is being demolished. The school moved to new accommodation in Havenstraat last year. The location will now be used for social housing.

Largest social housing project in Zuidas starts

Construction work started on Stepstone on 1 April 2022. Boasting 216 rental apartments for first-timers, this is the largest social housing project so far in Zuidas. In the same neighbourhood, Kenniskwartier (Knowledge District), some 2,700 homes are being built in the years ahead.

Plenty to do in Zuidas on Open Tower Day 2022

On Saturday, 26 March 2022, 19 tall buildings across Amsterdam will be opening their doors to anyone interested in visiting them. Of course, Zuidas will be participating fully in this tenth edition of Open Tower Day.

Ukrainian refugees to be accommodated at Holiday Inn

The Holiday Inn hotel located at 2 De Boelelaan will become a reception centre for Ukrainian refugees on Wednesday 16 March 2022. It can accommodate 280 people. The RAI conference centre is acting as a registration centre, from which refugees will be directed to accommodation.

Tic-Tac-Toe: 75 mid-market rental homes in the new Ravel district

One of the first projects in the new residential neighbourhood of Ravel has now been announced: Tic-Tac-Toe. The project will include 75 family homes of an average of 80 square metres in the medium-priced rental segment. Construction will begin in early 2024 and is expected to be completed in 2025.

‘Sapiens’ creative museum, workshop and debate centre in Valley

‘Sapiens’ is coming to Valley. According to the initiators of the project – Hogeschool Inholland, Naturalis Biodiversity Centre and VU University Amsterdam – Sapiens will be a 'creative centre for the Anthropocene'. A museum, workshop and debate centre all rolled into one.

Pleasant area around WTC’s Tower Ten

WTC’s Tower Ten has now reached such an advanced stage that the contractor is set to hand back the public space to the City of Amsterdam in May. So, what plans do we have for it? We will be adding a range of planting, widening the cycle path and making it an attractive place in which to spend time. We present an initial impression below.

Zoning plan for museum open for consultation

The establishment of a museum of modern art in the former courthouse building in Parnassusweg will require changes to the zoning plan. An application has now also been submitted for an environmental permit. You can find out more on 15 February 2022.

Zuidas model updated, view the time-lapse video

While we were closed because of coronavirus, model builder Adam Doyce Transue was able to work to his heart’s content updating the model in the Amsterdam Zuidas Information Centre. Why not take a look? You can also drop by in person. Because, the good news is that we have reopened again.
