Major maintenance work is expected to start in Wielingenstraat in July 2022. We have already sounded out local residents and users for their views on what should be done. These have now been incorporated in a provisional design that we will be happy to tell you more about on 11 October 2021.
The work to dismantle the temporary courthouse in Fred. Roeskestraat has started. In 2015, the building was one of the Netherlands’ first ever circular buildings. It is now one of the first practical examples of building reuse.
Construction work has started on The Pulse, yet another incredible eyecatcher in Zuidas. Boasting housing, offices, a cinema, bars and restaurants, the building embodies what the Innovation Quarter (‘Kenniskwartier’) is set to become: a vibrant part of Zuidas and Amsterdam.
Do you have ideas for improving Zuidas and making it more attractive? If so, they could actually become a reality. You have the rest of September to apply for a financial contribution to make your idea happen. This is all thanks to the Neighbourhood Budget ('Buurtbudget') 2021.
The residents of Verdi, the westernmost neighbourhood of Zuidas, have heard a lot of talk about a greener Verdi. What exactly we mean by that is outlined in the Verdi Green Plan (‘Groenplan Verdi’). On 28 September 2021, we will be telling you all about it during a walk. Would you like to join us and take part in the conversation?
Anyone looking east beyond Gustav Mahlerlaan will see a trench, 10 m wide and 5 m deep, running alongside Valley. It is a new link in the planned loop system around Zuidas. ‘We’ll be creating some lasagne here.’
This week, the trees were hoisted up onto the roof gardens on Terrace Tower. The additional greenery will make Zuidas more attractive to new businesses, boosting the City Council’s ambition to make the area more sustainable and greener.
In April, the British School of Amsterdam (BSA) relocated from Fred. Roeskestraat to a new building in Havenstraat. We have been planning to build homes on the site in Fred. Roeskestraat vacated by the school for a long time. On 23 June this year, we had talks with the local community about this.
The plans for OBA NEXT combine three big ambitions – a public library for the future, a public space at the heart of Zuidas that will contribute to cultural goals and a place where all residents of Amsterdam can improve their skills (including their digital skills). This is the essence of what we are asking participating parties to come up with in their development plans for Zuidas. Registrations opened on 15 July 2021.
In Kop Zuidas, buildings are being erected one after another. So, what can we expect the public space to look like in the near future? Is there any focus on the need for green areas in the neighbourhood? We have received questions about this from residents. The answer is this: green areas are particularly important, precisely because of all the building work.
Great news for Zuidas and the city: on 8 July 2021, the City Council approved the zoning plan for the Zuidas – Ravel residential neighbourhood. The plan will enable the development of a new, leafy family neighbourhood in Ravel, with 1,350 homes, 750 of which will be suitable for families.
As we have reported before, there are plans to build homes and offices on the site where the temporary court building currently stands. Those plans have now been modified in order to achieve the best possible quality for future residents. The new design chosen features a base building with two towers.
