The completion of PI59, in Prinses Irenestraat, is in sight. In less than two years, the contractor has transformed the building from a brutalist bunker to an ultramodern Philips headquarters. It is a truly amazing transformation.
From 15 January until Friday, 8 March, we will be relandscaping the public area around the new Strawinskyhuis. As a result, Strawinskypad will become accessible again. There will be some noise disruption, especially during the first week.
We are relandscaping the square in front of Thomaskerk church in Prinses Irenestraat. We will be adding new planting and there will also be seating. The aim is to give the square added community appeal. We will start on 23 October 2023 by working on pipelines under the square.
At the start of 2023, people in the Prinses Irenebuurt area had an opportunity in two rounds of digital consultation to express their views about the future use of the PI59 parking deck and the street next to it. Should it be used for plants and flowers, a boules court or a basketball field?
A lot of construction work is taking place between Amsterdam Zuid station and Prinses Irenestraat. In the upcoming period, there will also be works in and around the station. On 3 July 2023, we are organising a walk-in meeting at the Thomaskerk to update you on what is happening.
Starting on 1 May 2023, we are inviting the local community to suggest ideas for the pocket park between PI59 and law firm Freshfields. During the previous consultations in March, people’s preferences focused on green areas, sport and play. We now want to explore this in more detail. Will you contribute again, by swiping on the app?
Starting on 3 April, the bridge for cyclists and pedestrians that connects Zuidas with the Zuid city district will be closed for a three-month period. The Minervabrug is in poor condition and will be repaired. Cyclists and pedestrians will be able to cross the Zuider Amstelkanaal in Beethovenstraat.
Between PI59, formerly home to the Amsterdam International Community School (AICS), and the law firm Freshfields, we have plans to create a pocket park. We are eager to do this in consultation with the local neighbourhood. Will you contribute your ideas?
From 13 March until 5 May 2023, we will be completing the work on the public space around WTC Tower Ten. This will include adding an illuminated footpath between Strawinskylaan and Beethovenstraat. In the final week, there will be some traffic disruption.
The Streets of the World exhibition has been moved from Arnold Schönberglaan to Eduard van Beinumstraat, next to Zuidplein. As a result, this exhibition, featuring pictures of all 195 of the world’s capital cities, now has a great location within Zuidas. Come and see for yourself!
On 10 and 11 September 2022, thousands of monuments across the Netherlands will be opening their doors on Open Monuments Day (Open Monumentendag). In Zuidas, you can visit the monumental courthouse, the Burgerweeshuis (a former orphanage) or the Thomaskerk Church. The Zuidas Botanical Garden is also participating.
We are in the process of relandscaping the area around WTC Tower Ten. Before that, we will be replacing box piles in Beethovenstraat. In order to do the work safely, we will be closing the western lane to traffic during two weekends.
