On Saturday, 25 February, we will be removing a tree in Zuidplein, next to Eduard van Beinumstraat. This is necessary because we will be building the northern motorway tunnel here in the future. Before we can do that, we first need to ensure that the ground underneath is clear of obstacles.
The aftermath of an accident has been causing major congestion at the De Boelelaan-Beethovenstraat junction since Sunday, 5 February 2023. At the site of the incident, only one traffic lane is available in all directions. The situation is expected to last until Saturday, 11 February.

In February 2023, the maximum permitted speed in Gustav Mahlerlaan-West will be reduced from 50 km/h to 30 km/h. This will make this section of the Kenniskwartier between the Vrije Universiteit and Parnassusweg somewhat safer, before around 500 new homes are built there in the near future.
The exterior walls of Vrije Universiteit’s new Research Building are now windtight and watertight. The structure along the side of the building which protects cyclists and pedestrians from any falling building materials can now also be removed. Work will also begin on fitting out the laboratories inside the building.
The crossing over the road and tramlines in Parnassusweg has now been completed. This means that pedestrians heading from Amsterdam Zuid in the direction of VU Amsterdam can now avoid the busy junction between Buitenveldertselaan and De Boelelaan.
Between 19.00 and 01.00 on the evening of Friday, 2 December, we will be working on the corner of Strawinskylaan and Beethovenstraat. Resurfacing work was recently completed here, but an inspection has revealed that the asphalt was not properly applied. We will now rectify the problem.
Starting on Friday, 11 November, we will be closing Beethovenstraat in a southerly direction during three consecutive weekends. This is in order to enable resurfacing work as part of the relandscaping of the area around WTC Tower Ten.
Wielingenstraat will be completely closed to vehicle traffic in both directions for two days, starting on Friday 4 November at 19.00. Waternet will be working on the sewers near Krammerstraat during that period. Cyclists and pedestrians will not experience any additional disruption.
It’s a real inconvenience: Gustav Mahlerlaan is rudely interrupted by a tram line right next to Parnassusweg. In the period between 17 October and 2 December, we will be adding a new crossing to connect both halves of Gustav Mahlerlaan.
On Monday, 19 September 2022, we are embarking on major maintenance work in Wielingenstraat. This street, located next to the RAI, is being made safer and greener. Work on the street is expected to take a year.
From Friday, 2 September until Friday, 21 October 2022, there will be further traffic disruption and potentially also noise nuisance in Beethovenstraat, between Gustav Mahlerlaan and De Boelelaan. This is because of works in preparation for the new Ravel residential district.
